Light-induced orientation of nematic liquid crystal on the
isotropic quartz surface has been observed for the first time. This
phenomen is explained proceeding from photo-orientation of liquid
crystal monolayers adsorbed on the quartz. Activation energy of the
adsorbed molecules has been measured.
