Photochemical stability of composite systems polymer - dye
is considered depending on chemical structures of both components.
Polyvinylacetate and polyvinylpyrrolidone were taken as polymeric
matrices in combination with a number of azodyes. It is shown that
the rate of photodegradation in investigated systems is by the mechanism
of photoreaction (photoreduction or oxidation of dye), while the relaxation
rate of excited states,  by molecular interactions of dye with the polymer matrix.
The studies carried out allow to select properly both
azodye and polymeric matrix structures in order to achieve the required
photostability.
