Heterostructures consisting of a conducting polymer (polyepoxypropylcarbazole,
polyaniline), semiconductor (cadmium sulfide) and sensitizer (cyanine
dye as well as ion-radical salts or stable free radical) have been
prepared and investigated. Photocatalytic activity of these materials
in the reaction of molecular hydrogen release from water-alcohol mixtures
is considerably higher than that of cadmium sulfide. In addition,
these heterostructures are sensitive to light in the whole visible
range. The mechanism of photocatalytic effect and the scheme of
electron processes with participation of polymer, semiconductor
and dye are proposed.
