Basing on experimental data on the photosensitivity spectral
distribution in the 200-400 nm range, the selective photoconductivity
(PC) of rare-earth (RE) gallium garnets A3B2Ga3O12
(A = A3+ is a RE ion, B = Ga or Sc)
is considered in connection with photoinduced charge transfer between
the ligand and matrix RE ion. The selective PC in absorption f-bands
of A3+ ions in the 200-400 nm ranger produces all
features of absorption spectra and points that the photogeneration
of charge carriers involves excited unoccupied 4f shells of
A3+ ions.
