Abstract:

The sorption properties of the manganese oxyhydroxide MnO(OH) particles relative to Ag(I) ions in the pH range of 2-8 have been investigated. It was found that large agglomerates are formed in MnO(OH) consisting of particles no larger than 150 nm, which characterizes it as a macroporous sorbent. Kinetic studies have shown that sorption equilibrium on MnO(OH) particles is achieved in 50-60 minutes. It is shown that the efficiency of extraction of silver ions increases to the 78 % with increasing pH (at pH = 6). It was found that the value of the activation energy for the sorption of silver ions is 8.5 kJ/mol; this indicates the ion-exchange nature of sorption.
