Deformation calculations have been performed for NaI and CsI single crystals taking into account the crystal symmetry and thermal expansion under boundary conditions which can be realized in the production of scintillation detectors. Dependences of longitudinal stress on the side force applied to the crystal and on thermal expansion coefficients at different temperatures have been derived. A relationship has been determined between the force pressing the crystal against the detector window and thermal expansion of the crystal that is of importance for designing of scintillation detectors.
