The test results aimed at elucidation of the twinned interlayer
boundary effect on the radiation damage of crystals and the twinning
mechanism role in the plastic deformation of irradiated metals have
been presented. The irradiation results in a considerable increase
of the critical twinning stress, similar to the case of slipping.
The twinning becomes the main mechanism of the plastic deformation,
in particular, in metals having bcc and hcp lattices; this is due
to the structure heterogeneity increase caused by irradiation.
